One of Open World’s goals is to get students excited about using the technologies that will define their futures. 3D design\/drafting programs and 3D printing are two such technologies that will influence the course of STEAM fields for years to come, and we’re happy to offer students in our Innovators age group (ages 14\u201318) a chance to learn about these topics through fun, hands-on projects in workshops designed and taught by working professionals in the industry.<\/p>

Character Design and Digital Sculpting with ZBrush<\/a><\/h3>

Students in this workshop<\/a> can get their first experience using the same 3D design tools that professional digital sculptors use for both film and video games. They’ll be able to create and refine their own original character designs and bring those characters to life as figurines or magnetic monster heads with a state-of-the-art high-resolution resin printer.<\/p>

This workshop is designed and taught by Joe Stachnik, a sculptor, modeler, and teacher with nearly a decade of experience. He was the principal modeler for the GDC award-winning game Potionomics<\/em> and was the in-house sculptor for MakerBot, one of the world’s premier 3D printing companies.<\/p>

Appreciating Product Design and 3D Printing<\/a><\/h3>

In this workshop<\/a>, students learn all of the considerations professional product designers must take into account when creating the stylish, functional objects we use in our everyday life. Students will learn how to work with industry-standard Autodesk CAD software and produce smartly designed accessories and prototypes with the help of a Creality Ender-3 3D printer.<\/p>

Appreciating Product Design and 3D Printing is taught by Brian Jaffe, a certified CAD drafter with a background in mechanical engineering. For years, Brian has offered 3D design tutorials for both individual hobbyists and businesses and also assists in setting up 3D printing rigs and production pipelines.<\/p>
