Through his activism and advocacy, Sean is helping to reclaim and celebrate the rich culinary heritage of Indigenous communities around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Sean has dedicated his career to supporting and promoting Indigenous food systems and Native food sovereignty. His goal is to make Indigenous foods more accessible to as many communities as possible through the non-profit North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (<a href=\"https:\/\/natifs.org\/\">N\u0100TIFS<\/a>) and its Indigenous Food Lab professional Indigenous kitchen and<br \/>\ntraining center. Working to address the economic and health crises affecting Native communities by re-establishing Native foodways, N\u0100TIFS imagines a new North American food system that generates wealth and improves health in Native communities through food-related enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Sean\u2019s first book, The Sioux Chef\u2019s Indigenous Kitchen, received the James Beard Award for<br \/>\nBest American Cookbook in 2018, and he was given the 2019 Leadership Award from the<br \/>\nJames Beard Foundation. In 2021, Sean opened Minnesota\u2019s first full service Indigenous<br \/>\nrestaurant, Owamni, which received the 2022 James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant<br \/>\nin America on top of numerous awards nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Sean has just been named one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/tag\/time-100\/\">Time 100 Most Influential People of 2023<\/a>. She is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and will share her new music, <a href=\"https:\/\/yourplanbproductions.com\/gmiintest\/events\/pa-i-sha\/\">Story of Pa I Sha<\/a>, a musical work based on the stories of her heritage, beginning with her great-grandmother, Pa I Sha. Oka Homma formed in March 2023 to contribute to a resurgence of arts engagement needed to mobilize and build community. In addition, the Drum aims to re\/introduce cultural practice amongst Chicago\u2019s intergenerational Native American community. Through song, these singers share a small taste of southern plains culture with the Midwest populace.
