HB 1633 was successfully passed here in Illinois in 2023. It requires social studies courses in public schools to include a Native American history, including genocide and forced relocation of Native Americans by settlers, tribal sovereignty, treaties, and contributions and contemporary experiences by Native Americans.<\/p>\n

The Illinois State Board of Education, in collaboration with the Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative (CAICC) Education Committee, created this resource guide for Illinois Educators to align with the new state mandate.<\/p>\n
